Bring history to life for your children with an unforgettable family adventure through Egypt!
In November 2024, I took my 9-year-old grandson along as I led a group of adults through Egypt—from Cairo to Luxor to Aswan.

Back in Ireland on the bus from Dublin to Cork, my little man looked up at me and said, “All kids should get to explore Egypt… But maybe with a few tweaks to the grown-up schedule. Before I had time to respond he added “Nan, we need to make a trip for kids. Oh, and, by the way, I’m gonna be your business partner” I guess that means he intends coming with me on the trips!
So, we did just that. Together, we sat down and designed the itinerary for this special trip—crafted to spark young imaginations, make history exciting, and ensure a fun, enriching experience for the whole family.
The tour officially begins on Day 1 of the itinerary below, but I’d love to invite you and your family as my guests—completely free of charge—for up to three more extra nights, incl breakfasts, before we start. Why am I making this offer? The answer is a long one and you can find it here

To make the experience even more immersive, each child will receive a special interactive book. It’s not just a fantastic learning tool but also a treasured keepsake from their journey.
Plus, if your children already have a tablet or camera, they’ll have a great time capturing their own photos and videos—just like my grandson Adam did. This trip is full of incredible moments they’ll love to document and share.

FULL ITINERARY
Day 1 – Arrival in Luxor: Our adventure begins!
My representative will meet you at Luxor Airport and bring you to Mara House, your home away from home. If you’re connecting through Cairo, we can also meet you there to help with a smooth transfer and purchasing your entry visas, as well as escorting you through immigration and customs controls.
Day 2 – The Magic of Karnak & Luxor Temples + A Nile Sail.
Today, we step into history. Imagine giant statues, towering columns, and walls full of hieroglyphs waiting to be discovered. We’ll start at Karnak and Luxor Temples, where the kids can explore and hear some stories of ancient Egypt.
Then, we’ll switch things up—boarding a traditional felucca for a peaceful sail on the Nile, just as people did thousands of years ago. After lunch, we’ll visit a papyrus museum, where the kids will see how ancient scrolls were made (and maybe even try their hand at writing on one!).
Day 3 – Tomb Raider Day: Exploring the Valley of the Kings!
Time to play explorer! We’ll descend into three tombs in the legendary Valley of the Kings, each one decorated with incredible artwork. Then, we’ll visit King Tutankhamun’s tomb, where the mummy of the famous boy king now rests inside a glass case.
At the Workers’ Village (Deir El Medina), kids will discover the ruins where the artists and builders of these tombs actually lived.
We will also take a short climb to two tombs that tourists don’t get to see because they are a bit out of the way. But they are the best of the Nobles Tombs.
Before heading back, we’ll meet modern craftsmen who still carve stone tablets just like the ancient Egyptians did—a perfect chance to see history in action.
Day 4 – The Mystery and Wonders of Abydos & Dendera
Today, we travel to two of Egypt’s most astonishing temples. Dendera Temple is so well-preserved that it looks like it was built yesterday! Since it was buried under sand for centuries, its colors, carvings, and even its mysterious zodiac ceiling are almost perfectly intact. Kids will love the winding spiral staircase and being able to explore the top floor of the this temple.
Abydos – where the ancient Egyptians carved a modern day helicopter, stealth fighter and submarine which continue to mystify adult visitors as much as it does children. Overnight Mara House
Day 5 – Off to Cairo!
We’ll take a short flight to Cairo and settle into our hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax before our next big adventure.
Day 6 – Saqqara: The Step Pyramid & The Mysterious Serapeum.
Today, we explore Egypt’s first-ever pyramid—the Step Pyramid of Djoser. But the real surprise awaits underground… We visit the Saqqara Complex and enter the Serapeum, a vast network of tunnels filled with massive 70-ton stone sarcophagi. Some people think these belonged to sacred bulls, while others believe they hide an even bigger mystery. If your child loves space movies or ancient mysteries (like Adam does), they’ll be fascinated by the theories surrounding this place!
Day 7 – The Great Pyramid & The Grand Egyptian Museum!
No trip to Egypt is complete without standing in front of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Kids will love climbing up to the entrance, standing face-to-face with the mighty Sphinx, and capturing epic family photos from the panoramic viewpoint. A highlight of our adventure will be two hours private time – for our group only – inside the Gt. Pyramid.
After lunch, we’ll visit the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), where countless ancient artifacts are displayed in the most modern museum in the world. Not only does the GEM have a special experience for children – throughout the museum there are many interactive and short videos that will enthrall everyone.
Day 8 – Saladin’s Citadel & The Hidden Cave Church.
We’ll start at the Citadel of Saladin, where kids can run around exploring old fortifications and looking out over all of Cairo. Then, we’ll visit Coptic Cairo, a place filled with ancient churches, winding passageways, and even a synagogue.
Our last stop is the Cave Church, an enormous, beautifully hand-decorated church built right into the rock! It’s a truly unique experience that all visitors marvel at.
Day 9 – The Pharaoh’s World & A Royal Mansion.
Today, we’ll step into a living history experience at the Pharaonic Village, where actors bring ancient Egypt to life! Kids can see how pharaohs, priests, and workers lived thousands of years ago, making history feel real and exciting.
Finally, we’ll end the tour at Manial Palace, a breathtaking royal residence filled with secret gardens, rare art, a hunting museum and fascinating stories.
Day 10 – A Surprise Stop & Journey to Alexandria!
I’m adding something new today—an exciting visit to 6th October Panorama, a military museum that Adam personally recommended as a must-see for his next trip which, hopefully will be in July 2025. After lunch, we’ll hit the road and head to Alexandria, the famous city by the Mediterranean, for an overnight stay.
Day 11 – Fortresses, Catacombs & Hidden Treasures in Alexandria.
This day is packed with adventure! Kids will love exploring:
- The Fortress of Qaitbay, a towering fortress built on the ruins of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria.
- The Catacombs, an underground world filled with secret passageways and mysterious tombs.
- The National Museum & The Jewellery Museum, where they’ll see glittering royal treasures from Egypt’s last kings and queens!
After an action-packed day, we will either drive back to Cairo or take a train. This decision will be made nearer the time.
Day 12 – The End of our Egyptian Adventure.
After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and transfer you to Cairo Airport for your flights home.
