Why You Should Buy Travel Insurance the Day You Book Your Egypt Holiday

Updated 3 August 2026

One of the first things I tell people after they decide to travel to Egypt is this:

“Please ensure you have full travel and health insurance and be sure it includes CANCELLATION under any circumstances.”

Not a month before you fly. Not when you’ve paid the balance. Not after you’ve booked your flights.

Ideally, buy it the same day you make your first payment.

It isn’t because I expect something to go wrong.

It’s because once you’ve invested time and money into creating an exceptional holiday, it makes sense to protect that investment from the very beginning.

Why timing matters

Many people assume travel insurance only matters once they leave home.

In reality, some of the biggest financial risks happen long before you ever reach the airport.

You might become ill.

A close family member could become seriously unwell.

Your employer may cancel approved leave.

Your home could suffer major damage.

Unexpected events do happen, and they usually happen before anyone expects them.

If you’ve already insured your holiday, you may be able to recover many of the costs you’ve already committed to.

Most policies include an important cancellation period

Many comprehensive travel insurance policies include cancellation cover from the day you purchase the policy.

Some insurers also offer a limited period – often around 14 days after purchasing the policy – during which you can cancel the insurance itself if you change your mind and haven’t travelled or made a claim.

The exact rules vary between insurers, so always read the policy wording carefully.

That means buying early doesn’t necessarily lock you into something immediately, but delaying can leave you uninsured during the period when you’re making deposits and confirming arrangements.

A benefit my clients appreciate

When you book your Egypt holiday through me, I already have all your details and your trip details so there is no need for you to waste time filling out multiple forms for insurance cover.

A second big bonus for you is that you don’t need to know the final cost of the trip before covering yourself against loss, nor do you need to have completed the booking process.  Here’s how it works –

  • When you pay your holiday deposit, I’ll provide an insurance quotation based on that amount.
  • If the quote is agreeable you download the app, open the quotation and pay for it.
  • As you make further payments towards your holiday, I’ll simply increase the insured value so your cover keeps pace with your investment and you pay as you go, so to speak.
  • There’s no need to insure the entire holiday before you’ve actually paid for it.
  • Managing your policy is easy – you always have access to it on your phone
  • Should you need to make a claim for anything from lost luggage to cancellation you simply process it through the app
  • Should you require any additional information or paperwork for your claim I can provide it quickly and easily.

Why this matters even more for Egypt

An Egypt holiday often involves far more moving parts than a typical package holiday.

Your itinerary may include hotels, Nile cruises, domestic flights, private guides, special permits, exclusive access visits and independently booked international flights.

These bookings are sometimes made over several weeks rather than all at once.  For example we may need to lock in domestic flights while still deciding on hotels or wrapping up tour details.

Protecting each stage as it is confirmed simply makes good financial sense.

Planning early actually reduces stress

People often worry that booking early creates more opportunities for things to go wrong.

For Egypt the reality is exactly the opposite.

Booking early always means better availability, more itinerary options, less pressure and more time to arrange the experiences that make Egypt truly special.

Adding travel insurance at the beginning removes any anxiety about losing money paid for deposits, flights etc.

Once it’s in place, you can concentrate on planning the exciting parts of your journey.

If something does go wrong, I won’t simply disappear

One advantage of working directly with me is that I already know your itinerary and I am always on hand before and throughout your trip.  For anything like a flight cancellation or delay I am there immediately with the documentation from the airline as well as to sort out the next part of the trip if necessary.

What it boils down to really is that I am there to hold your hand from planning to booking, throughout the trip as well as helping with any and every problem that might possibly crop up.

If you ever need documents, confirmations or booking information to support an insurance claim, I have then already in one place for you.

That’s a big advantage of having someone who has personally organised your journey.
