Update 26 August 2026: Planning your way to Luxor is becoming more difficult
The 2 August 2027 Total Solar Eclipse is still a year away, but the pressure on Luxor is already building. Accommodation prices are rising sharply, availability is disappearing, and I am hearing from travelers who have booked cruises or tours ending in Luxor around the eclipse but are now struggling to find somewhere to stay afterwards.
Flights are becoming another problem. Scheduled flights between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan are limited, and prices are rising rapidly. We have already chartered private aircraft for our eclipse travelers, so this is one problem you do not need to worry about.
I am also seeing people planning to arrive in Luxor without accommodation and hoping to find somewhere when they get there. Please don’t do this. Luxor in August is not somewhere you want to arrive without a confirmed bed, transport and a plan.
My 2027 eclipse programmes begin and end in Cairo for a reason. I have planned the complete journey around the realities of getting to Luxor, staying there during the eclipse period and getting safely back out again.
