When a natural disaster or terrorist act occurs in a Western country like US or any European country – what happens? Within 24 hours local and government representatives are on world news channels and front pages of international newspapers. They take the attitude Britain took when the Nazis were dropping bombs on London in World War II. They take the attitude of “This will not defeat us, we will not let events like this dictate to us how we live our lives. We rise again today from the ashes of this disaster. We SHALL overcome and we will show this by cleaning up, getting back to work and living the lives we want to live! Long Live (…………….)!”
THAT is what they do – go check it out – I am sure you will find many instances on YouTube. What did George Bush say from the ruins of the Twin Towers? Egypt has not had a disaster even close to what some countries in the world have experienced over the last 50 years. 20 people were killed yesterday in the streets of Belfast trying to open roads for a nationalist parade – have you seen it in the news? Has Ireland shut down their tourism operations or promotions for fear of safety for tourists?
This has been going on in Ireland for the last 95 years – IRELAND HAS ONE OF THE BEST TOURISM INDUSTRIES IN THE WORLD. It has every disadvantage – it is out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with no land access. It has NO PYRAMIDS or KINGS VALLEY yet the tourism to Ireland is greater and has been greater prior to 2011 than tourism to Egypt. What does that tell you? It tells me Egypt does not know how to market itself. It is not taking adequate care of it’s tourist sites. Egypt has more potential for tourism than any Egyptian knows. There are several reasons for tourists to visit Cairo, Luxor, Aswan etc. that are not even spoken about, not even known about in the halls of the Ministry for Tourism or the Ministry for Antiquities. It has been doing the same type of promotions for the last 10 years (can’t speak for prior to that because I was not here)
EGYPT has a fantastic, huge advantage now…….BECAUSE of the fact that Egypt is behind the rest of the world in development it can take a quantum leap now. It does not need to go down the road of learning that many European countries have gone down. Egypt can look at the world and learn from their mistakes in every aspect of living, development, culture and tourism. It can copy their successes, disregard their failures and in technology in particular take a leap into the 21st century from the 19th century! Egypt has a bigger advantage now than any county EVER had to progress and outrun the rest of the world. This will take open-mindedness on behalf of government and local officials. It will take intelligence and the willingness to take unusual and momumental decisions. It will take determination and steadfastness to see these decisions through to completion. Egypt has already upset the plans of foreign powers since 30 June and 3 August.
The people have shown their willingness and readyness to take unusual decisions and carry them through. The people of Egypt are ready and waiting – the only question now is “ARE THE LEADERS OF EGYPT READY AND WILLING TO BE LEADERS? THIS MEANS FORGETTING THEY ARE AN INTERIM GOVERNMENT. THIS MEANS BEING BRAVE. THIS MEANS BEING INNOVATIVE. IF THEY ARE PEOPLE OF VISION AND COURAGE – WHO SAYS THEY CANNOT BE PART OF THE NEW GOVERNMENT AFTER ELECTIONS? IF THEIR DECISIONS NOW ARE SUCCESSFUL WOULD IT NOT BE STUPID AND CRAZY NOT TO KEEP THEM ON?
Regardless of what the Muslim Brotherhood or affiliated terror organisations decide to so Egypt needs to get on with not only getting life back to normal but SHOWING the world that life is back to business as usual here. This means getting the security back on the streets – no more excuses tolerated! Cairo is normal outside the sit -ins so it just remains to get LUXOR and ASWAN back to normal.
How long is the interim govt for? Who is drafting a new constitution? have they brought in foreign constitution experts as Tunisia has to work with them to get it right? Maybe they should import the expertise to teach the Egyptians the “new ways” otherwise it is same old same old….
Plus don’t forget the religious factor and no offense meant but brainwashing that it is “Gods way”, well complacent people are easier to manipulate are they not? Very few women hold positions of any power and all this about “the neck turns the head” well worth jack shit when your head has been chopped off!!! So you are right, it looks like the time has come for EGYPTIANS to stand up and unite and push the country forward, fight for it and make it happen. See the revolution through to fruition, don’t let the bloodshed and loss of life have been for nothing, make those people count.
