Why 3 Nights in Luxor is the Perfect Formula

Luxor contains over a third of the world’s ancient monuments — it cannot be done in a single day.

I have designed this 3-night itinerary as the ideal short-stay experience for travelers who want to see the best of Luxor without the overwhelm.  You’ll have enough time to visit the key sites at a comfortable pace while enjoying proper downtime in between.

Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with a small group, this package lets you experience Luxor in comfort, not chaos.

What Makes Mara House Different?

Mara House is not a typical hotel.  Our suites are apartment-sized, with a private sitting room, bedroom, and bathroom.  You’ll feel more like a guest in a welcoming home than a number on a hotel room list.

At the same time, we handle everything for you — airport pickup, daily tour coordination, transport, meal options, and local guidance.

“It was such a relief to just be told what to wear and when to be ready!” – a recent guest

Unique Dining – Only at Mara House

During your stay, you can book our famous Salahadeen Feast — a traditional Egyptian dining experience served exactly the way families have done for generations: a wide variety of dishes presented on one large tray for sharing.

While watered-down versions exist in restaurants, this authentic, home-cooked experience is only available to Mara House guests, and served in a setting that evokes the splendour of old Cairo and the spirit of Egypt.

No buffets.  No repetitive hotel menus.  If you book it more than once, we change the dishes so you can try more of Egypt’s culinary heritage.

Arrival Tips – When to Arrive in Luxor

To make the most of your stay:

  • Evening or pre-noon arrival is ideal for rest before tours

  • Morning arrival before 12 PM allows for a relaxed check-in, lunch, and a tour of Karnak & Luxor Temples the same day

  • Early morning arrival (before 7 AM) allows for immediate touring if you’re short on time

I recommend flying from Cairo to Luxor, as the overnight train often leads to fatigue — and Luxor’s temples deserve your full energy and focus.

Optional Add-Ons

Want to customize your stay further? We can help you arrange any of these during your stay, they do not have to be pre-booked.  A mistake that some travelers make is pre-booking too many experiences in advance and then feeling obliged to one’s self to fulfill them even if not in the mood or too tired.  There’s a fine balance between pre-booking too little and pre-booking too much.  So, I always include the essentials and must-see’s in my combo package offers, while giving time and space for extra adventures.

  • A felucca sail on the Nile — with or without a picnic lunch

  • Sound & Light Show at Karnak Temple

  • Evening visit to Luxor Museum

FAQs – 3-Night Luxor Package at Mara House

Q: Can I customize the tours in this package?
Yes. If you want to swap in other Luxor sites or adjust the schedule, we can help tailor the package to your interests.

Q: Is this a private tour or will I be in a group?

All tours from Mara House are either private or small-group experiences — never large bus tours or impersonal group excursions.  Guests often get to know one another during their stay, and many have formed friendships that lasted long after Egypt.

When it makes sense — like for the longer drive to Abydos — we may combine guests into one vehicle if you’re visiting the same site.  It’s more environmentally conscious and avoids the unnecessary cost of sending multiple cars and guides for the same tour.

If you’re the only guest booked for a particular site, your tour will automatically be private.  If others are going on the same day and you’d still prefer a private tour, that can be arranged for an additional fee.

Q: Are meals included?
Breakfast is included. Lunch and dinner are optional — you can dine out, order in, or book our exclusive Salahadeen Feast in-house.

Q: Is this package suitable for solo travelers or families?
Yes.  We welcome solo travelers, couples, and families — each suite is large enough for up to 4 people.

Q: How far is Mara House from the main sites?
We’re located in a lived-in, local neighbourhood of Luxor — away from the tourist crowds, but still close to everything you’ll want to see.  The train station is 10 minutes walking distance and Luxor Temple 15 mins.  Staying here offers a more authentic glimpse of daily life in Egypt, with the comfort and security of Mara House as your base.  Transport is included each day for all your tours — you won’t have to figure anything out yourself.

Mara - Mara House Luxor

Meet Mara

Hi, I’m Mara — the heart behind Mara House Luxor.
Over twenty years ago, I came to Egypt on an ordinary tour. It was enjoyable… but while it was not a deep, soul-stirring journey, I felt like I had come home. So I returned — and over time I created the kind of memorable experiences for you that I should have had first time.

What makes me different?
I don’t just want you to see Egypt — I want you to feel it, but even I am still learning. Through my blog and in person, I tell the stories behind the stones, so you can imagine the real people who once lived here, walked these temple floors, and shaped this extraordinary land. No made-up tales, no polished-over legends — just truth, heart, and a little magic.

Together with my small Egyptian team, I create honest, personal, unforgettable journeys — whether you’re here for a few days at Mara House or travelling across the country with us.
