Bring history to life for your children with an unforgettable family adventure across Egypt – designed by a 9-year-old, checked by his grandmother.

In November 2024, I took my 9-year-old grandson along as I guided a group of adults through Egypt—from Cairo to Luxor to Aswan.

Mara House Luxor group tour Aswan Nov 2024

On the bus back in Ireland, heading home from Dublin to Cork, he looked up at me and said:

“Nan, all kids should get to explore Egypt… but with a few tweaks to what we did.”

Before I could reply, he added:

We need to make a trip for kids.  Oh—and I’m gonna be your business partner.

So we sat down, just the two of us, and designed this trip together.  A 12-day Egypt tour for families, shaped by curiosity, crafted for wonder, and filled with the kind of moments kids (and their grown-ups) never forget.

✨ A Family-Friendly Egypt Tour Built for Discovery, Fun & Education

This is not a watered-down adult tour with bored kids in the background.  This is a real Egyptian adventure—reimagined for young explorers.

We’ve built in play, rest, comfort, flexibility, and the wow-factor—plus a few surprises.  Your children won’t just see Egypt. They’ll feel it.

📚 Each child will receive a special interactive temple guidebook—with transparent overlays that show how temples looked thousands of years ago.  A hands-on tool for learning, drawing, imagining—and remembering.

📸 Kids are encouraged to capture their trip with their own photos or videos—just like my grandson Adam did. This tour is full of incredible moments they’ll want to share.

🗺️ Highlights of Your Egypt Family Adventure

✔️ Real Temples, Real Tombs, Real Adventure

  • Explore the Valley of the Kings, Karnak, and Luxor Temples with stories designed to enchant children, while weaving in the facts

  • Step inside King Tutankhamun’s tomb and visit the workers’ village where his tomb builders lived

  • Visit the Great Pyramid, meet the Sphinx up close and personal, and enjoy two hours of private time inside the pyramid—just for our group

✔️ Hands-On History

  • Watch craftsmen carve stone like the ancients

  • See how the ancients made their papyrus in real life, not on a video

  • Sail along the river of a Pharaonic Living History Village, where actors bring ancient Egypt to life

✔️ Outdoor & On-the-Water Fun

  • Sail the Nile by traditional felucca, picnic included.

  • See the sacred lake filled with water from the Nile, then go and explore the dried up sacred lake with the children and wonder at the engineering ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians
  • Climb a spiral staircase in the Temple of Dendera and see what sensationalists call “the melting stairs” – there is no mystery there, they have been worn down by years and years of use 🙂  There is no mystery in the worn steps – the mystery is in the question “when and why were the stairs worn down so much?”  Because in the years since Dendera Temple emerged from the sands (which is why it is the best preserved temple in Egypt, Dendera has been relatively unvisited by the hoards of visitors that frequented temples such as Karnak and Luxor.

  • Relive the thrill of your childhood explorations—wandering through medieval forts and forgotten catacombs in Alexandria—this time hand in hand with your children, as their sense of wonder reignites your own.

✔️ Cairo, Alexandria & Hidden Gems

  • Explore the Grand Egyptian Museum with its interactive kid-friendly exhibits, which are spread throughout the museum and not just put into one space to keep kids occupied.  But there is a special kid’s space also.  Adam really loved the fact that these spectacles were throughout the museum!

  • See the Serapeum, Saladin’s Citadel, Coptic Cairo, and the Cave Church carved into the mountain.  If you never thought seriously about aliens, this visit to the Serapeum with us will have you re-thinking!

  • End in Alexandria with the Jewellery Museum, Catacombs, and Fort Qaitbay

Bonus stop recommended by Adam: the 6th October Panorama Military Museum in Cairo—a surprise hit with curious kids.

This journey isn’t just a vacation—it’s an interactive classroom, a treasure hunt, and an adventure rolled into one!   With an expert guide specifically chosen to enchant the children with his stories and who brings Egypt’s stories to life, your family will leave with memories as timeless as the pyramids themselves.

Mara - Mara House Luxor

Meet Mara

Hi, I’m Mara — the heart behind Mara House Luxor.
Over twenty years ago, I came to Egypt on an ordinary tour. It was enjoyable… but while it was not a deep, soul-stirring journey, I felt like I had come home. So I returned — and over time I created the kind of memorable experiences for you that I should have had first time.

What makes me different?
I don’t just want you to see Egypt — I want you to feel it, but even I am still learning. Through my blog and in person, I tell the stories behind the stones, so you can imagine the real people who once lived here, walked these temple floors, and shaped this extraordinary land. No made-up tales, no polished-over legends — just truth, heart, and a little magic.

Together with my small Egyptian team, I create honest, personal, unforgettable journeys — whether you’re here for a few days at Mara House or travelling across the country with us.

If you’d like help planning a meaningful and worry-free stay in Egypt, just drop me an email — I respond personally:
